About Joel Stephenson

Joel joined Finys in 2021 and quickly became a key contributor to both the Framework and Design Studio teams. His work spans client-specific projects and the development of core, reusable product templates.

From Client Enhancements to Base Product Development

Joel’s early work involved custom enhancements for Finys clients such as Rogers Gray and Wayne Insurance Company. Later, he transitioned to the product team, where he began building standard lines of business designed for faster client implementation. These base products include essential features insurers need to get operational quickly—often reducing launch timelines from months to weeks.

Designing for Ease of Use and Flexibility

One of Joel’s standout projects was developing a dwelling fire product with a focus on clarity and usability for client partners. By designing it for intuitive use within Design Studio, Joel enabled clients to make their own updates and configurations with minimal training.

Why Finys Is a Great Place to Work

Joel values the team environment at Finys, where collaboration and knowledge-sharing are part of everyday work. He describes strong relationships with client partners, who treat the Finys team as an extension of their own.

“My name is Joel Stephenson, and I’ve been with the company for about two years. I work on the framework team and design studio team, so I’ve worked with numerous clients. I started off working with one of our clients, Rogers Gray. I then worked on enhancements with Wayne Insurance Company. I’ve also been working with Bedford Grange Mutual and Benaiah. When I was moved over to the product team, I started building out some of the base products that we use with our clients. I took a standard line of business, built it out, and made it something that the clients can utilize. It’s got a lot of features that they need to hit the ground running more quickly than a completely custom build. Once you get the base product built out and the client likes that and includes most of the features, then you will customize it specifically for them, and that can go anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months to customize.”

“One of the unique ones was dwelling fire. I had the opportunity to spend more time kind of designing it in a way that I thought would be very understandable for our client partners when they decide to implement using the design studio on their own. Working at Finys has been great. I’ve enjoyed it. It’s a great team environment. There’s a lot of room for development and for growth, both in knowledge and professionally in my career, so I’ve loved it here. Our client partners treat us like part of their team. They know their product, which is a huge advantage because that’s what we’re building out. But yeah, no, they’re extremely professional to work with. It’s a pleasure.”
